Polkadoodles – 7 Year Itch – Oddella

Morning all, thank goodness it’s the weekend, it’s been a hectic week!

It’s time to celebrate Polkadoodles is turning 7.

As this anniversary is normally called the “7 year itch”, the Polkadoodles team have embraced the prickly feeling by scratching that itch and mixing/scratching up some new images … get the pun? Corny we know but the team have had great fun. So to embrace the “itchy scratch” the Polkadoodles team have thrown caution to the wind and “scratched up” a different kind of birthday celebration.

The birthday celebrations will be running for 2 weeks and each day someone from the Polkadoodles team will be sharing their “mixed/scratched up” image. It’s been all hush hush and secret squirrel too as no one knows who has been busy creating what and when they will be revealing their image… so the Polkadoodles team get to join in the fun too. To add an extra layer of itchy fun, everyone has also been colouring up the new “scratched/mixed up” images, (still not knowing who designed them) and they will be sharing via their blogs and on FaceBook.

We really have scratched things up … new merged images, no one knows who created what and no one knows when they’ll be sharing them …!

Please do take the opportunity to visit the Polkadoodles team, you can catch up with team over on Facebook in Polkadoodles Crafting or Digi Choosday Crafting with Polkadoodles groups and see their new digi images because you will find a discount code (or two) along your way that you can use in the Polkadoodles shop.

I got busy and messy making an altered mini clipboard, using my mixed up digi image, available here.

Step by Step

1. Using my mixed up digi image, Oddella with wings, I printed the altered Oddella onto Ultimate Graphic paper and coloured her with a combination of Copic Pens and Faber Castell Polychromo pencils, along with a gold Wink of Stellar brush pen on the crown. Fussy cut Oddella out, I did chop off her handbag because I knew it would be virtually covered with the paper flowers.

2. Used Art Deco Modelling paste with a Viva Decor/Pinflair stencil in a couple of spots on the mini clipboard and allowed to dry.

3. Gave the mini clipboard a thin coat of white gesso, used Art Deco acrylic paints in brown & teal to give an undercoat to the background.

4. Used Ranger Alcohol Inks, in various colours – reds, oranges, gold, silver & green, to create an aged metallic effect for the background. Also adding some to the spring clip of the mini clipboard.

5.  Used black Archival ink with various Tim Holtz stamps to add some interest to the background.

6. Highlighted the stencilled embossing with the Pinflair Buff-It.

7. Used a Tattered Lace heart die to cut three hearts from Kraft card, embossed one of the hearts with a Tattered Lace embossing folder. Glued the three hearts together, this was done simply to give the heart some strength because it would be on the spring clip.

8. Cut several cogs and a key, using First Edition dies, and an arrow, using a Sizzix die, from Kraft card. Coloured the heart, cogs, key and arrow with Pinflair Buff-It in several metallic colours.

9. Glued the various die cuts onto the heart, adhered the heart to the spring clip using Pinflair 3D glue gel.

10. Glued my Oddella mixed up digi image to the bottom right hand corner using Art Deco Matte Medium, also sealed Oddella with the Matte Medium too. Added the paper flowers, adhering with Pinflair 3D glue gel, and a couple of sprigs cut from Kraft card, using a Tattered Lace die.

For my mixed up image, I’ve used one of my fav digi characters Oddella with handbag, instant download, and mixed it up with a couple of digi stamps, the crown and the wings, from the Work and Play 9 Love & Kisses Collection, instant download.

Say It With Flowers – Love

Afternoon, hope you’re all well! It’s cold, cold, cold here in Lancashire so what better excuse to stay indoors and craft.

Sharing a make using some of my Tattered Lace dies and embossing folders.

I used various dies to make the card, using Kraft card, cream linen effect card & gold mirri card. I gold Buff-It polish on the flowers and leaves after I’d embossed the pieces. Embellishing with a few light pink flat back pearls.

Off to play with some of my new Sweet Poppy Stencils that I bought recently, need to clear a decent space on the craft desk first though, it’s a tip!!!!!

I decided to make a page for an art journal, I’m having lots fun with art journals and experimenting with different techniques πŸ™‚

I plumped for an art journal page rather than a card because I’d come across a quote from Lucy Larcom which I think fitted perfectly for this weeks theme of Winter Birthdays. I’m certainly not in the Winter of my years but I’m definitely no longer a Spring chicken and I don’t have the same enthusiasm for my own birthdays anymore as I did in my youth lol. The quote from Lucy Larcom is a reminder to myself not to focus on the number and the years gone but to look forward to the coming years with more appreciation and enthusiasm!!

So now I’ve waffled on about why, now for the products and techniques used!

I choose Octavia Winter Time from the Octavia Frosted Winter collection, available on CD-Rom or digital download. I coloured Octavia with alcohol markers and fussy cut the image.

I choose a gorgeous vintage shabby chic style paper in a gentle green colour from the Octavia Frosted Winter collection, the digital paper has a textured effect and to play on this more I used a script rubber stamp using Versamark and heat embossed with gold embossing powder. I also used the Versamark ink pad to edge the paper and heat embossed again with gold embossing powder.

I typed up the Lucy Larcom quote in a word package on my PC and printed it out, snipped out the words and edged with a Memento ink pad in green. I used the Memento ink pad knowing that I was going to seal the whole page with DecoArt Matte Medium, which would smear the Memento ink when applied because I didn’t want the bare white of the paper and the smeared ink would tone the paper down. I used an inkjet printer for printing the text, some inkjet prints will smear or bleed when wet glues/mediums/paints etc are applied but touch wood my printer ink doesn’t (at least done lightly!), but it is something you should be aware of if using inkjet prints and applying wet mediums over the printed image or text.

I printed out some the flowers also from the Octavia Frosted Winter collection and cut them out, I also used a couple of the papers from the collection to use with Spellbinder foliage dies. I embossed the flowers and foliage with a Tattered Lace embossing folder and highlighted the embossing with Pinflair Buff It.

I glued down Octavia and the text with DecoArt Medium and went over the whole page with the Matte Medium too. The Matte Medium helps when I use the Pitt Artist Pens to add shadow and definition to the page, the Matte Medium allows the ink in the Pitt Artist pens to smudge easily for a soft effect. I added the flowers & foliage using Pinflair glue gel and used Viva Decor Pearl pen to create the centre of the flower. Once everything was added to the page, I thought the top right hand corner looked a little bare so using Versamark I used a little accent stamp, from a Tatty Twinkle stamp set, to create the corner detail and heat embossed with gold embossing powder.

Using Pitt Artist Big Brush pens I added some definition around the text, I also used a Graph’it Shake pen in gold directly on the words and smudged with my finger so there’s a very subtle gold sheen on the words. To make Octavia pop I used the Pitt Artist Pens again, using grey and a soft yellow, to give her a little glow and I also used grey and black pens to add shadow around her feet to ground her. Finally I mounted onto an 8×8″ piece of aqua cardstock. I’m going to use my Cinch to bind my art journal pages together when I’ve made more!

Thanks for popping by and I very much hope to see you projects over on the Digi Choosday challenge blog, you’ll also find more inspiration from the DT over on the blog too.
