Northern Lights

Afternoon, sharing one of my makes using the Polkadoodles Festive Christmas clear stamps.

Step by Step

1. Cut an oval from white card stock, using Tattered Lace Oval die set.

2. Used Distress Inks and a blending tool to apply 3 colours, pink, turquoise and yellow, to create the background.

3. Used Black Soot Distress Ink and a blending tool around the edge of the oval. Took the Black Soot in towards the centre fading the colour as it moved closer to the centre.

4. Sprinkled/splashed water onto the background. Allowed the water to penetrate the ink and blotted with kitchen roll.

5. Once the background was completely dry, stamped the Christmas tree and text, from the Polkadoodles Festive Christmas stamp sets, using Versamark and added black glitter embossing powder, I also used an anti-static bag on the background before stamping. Heat set the embossing powder.

6. Used a white Derwent Paint Liner pen to add faux stitching around the edge of the background.

7. Die cut an oval from white card stock and add faux stitching around the edge using a black Sakura Micron pen.

8. Cut an oval card blank from black card stock, embellished with faux stitching using a white Derwent Paint Liner pen.

9. Matted and layered the white oval and background onto the card blank using 3D foam pads.

Digi Choosday – Week 39 – Anything Goes

Morning, it’s Tuesday and the start of a new challenge at Digi Choosday

The theme is – Anything Goes.

I’ve made a Xmas wall hanging for this weeks challenge, using the new release from Polkadoodles Festive Christmas available on CD-ROM.

Step by Step

1. Using a graphics program, I use My Craft Studio, I choose a one of the pre-designed circle frames from the Polkadoodles Festive Christmas collection and resized. I added additional elements from the embellishments section, the snowflakes and script, and altered the brightness to make them white, then altered the opacity so background would show through. I also did the same for the reindeer and the text.

2. Die cut the circle, using a Tattered Lace circle die, and matted onto decorative circle, cut from white card stock using a Spellbinders die.

3. Printed a co-ordinating paper, also from the Polkadoodles Festive Christmas collection, matted onto white card stock.

4. Matted the focal design using 3D foam tape.

5. Embellished with some snowflakes, die cut from white card stock using a Tattered Lace die set. Added some clear flat back gems to the snowflakes.

6. Used some white ribbon to create a hanging loop.

Digi Choosday – Week 38 – Anything Goes

Morning, it’s Tuesday and the start of a new challenge at Digi Choosday

The theme is – Anything Goes.

I’ve made a little Xmas gift box for this weeks challenge, using the new release from Polkadoodles Festive Christmas available on CD-ROM.

Step by Step

1. Choose papers & a tag from Polkadoodles Festive Christmas collection.

2. Used the Tattered Lace Hexagon Box die to cut the box and lid from the Festive Christmas papers. Constructed the box and lid, edged with a green Memento ink pad.

3. Cut out the tag and edged with a green Memento ink pad.

4.  Used a Tattered Lace Floral die to cut the flowers and foliage from the Festive Christmas papers. Edged the flowers with a red Memento ink pad. I printed a green and red paper from the Festive Christmas collection double sided to use for the foliage and flowers, saves paper 🙂

5. Adhered the flowers and tag using Pinflair 3D glue gel. Embellished the flowers with flat back pearls.

Kaleidoscope Hearts

Morning, sharing my latest mixed media canvas.

Got colourful with paints and heart die cuts to create this canvas.

Listen to Your Heart, Mixed Media, Dylusions, Tattered Lace, Visible Image Stamps

 Step by Step

Cut several hearts in 4 different sizes, using Tattered Lace Essential Hearts die set. For this 10×8″ canvas, I used 3 large, 5 medium, 5 small & 22 X-small hearts were used. Don’t throw away the waste, keep to use as a stencil later.

Cut a stencil from the scrap card stock using the Tattered Lace Brickwork die, this die leaves the design in the card stock so makes a super quick stencil.

Cut a section of the Tattered Lace Honeycomb Lattice, this can been cut from scrap card stock as it will painted later. You need two pieces for opposing corners of the canvas, trim the Honeycomb Lattice die cut to the desired size and shape.

Use the brickwork stencil to apply the modelling paste to the canvas, as shown in the picture. Used my spatula to lightly tap the modelling paste, to create some additional texture. Allowed the modelling paste to dry completely before applying any paint.

Adhered  the Honeycomb Lattice pieces to the canvas using DecoArt Matte Medium, as shown in the picture. Matte medium left to dry before applying the paint.

Painted the hearts with the Dylusions paints, using a blending tool – colours used Squeezed Orange, Cherry Pie, Postbox Red, Fresh Lime and London Blue.

Once the paint was completely dry, used black Archival ink to stamp the hearts, I used a stamp from Tim Holtz Butterfly Melange stamp set. I didn’t re-ink after each stamping some hearts, using second or even third generation stamping.

Used a stencil to add further interest to the hearts, I used Tim Holtz Speckles and Black Marble Dylusions paint with a blending tool to apply.

Used a black paint pen, Derwent Graphik Paint Liner, to draw sketch line on the hearts as shown in the canvas.

Gave the canvas a coat of white Gesso, heat set before applying any paint.

Applied the background colours, used Dylusions paints – Lemon Zest, Fresh Lime & Calypso Teal.

Once the paint was completely dry, used a green ink spray with a stencil, I used Tim Holtz Speckled stencil, to add interest to the background. Allowed to dry throughly.

Used the waste from die cutting the hearts as a stencil, used White Linen Dylusions paint with a blending tool.

Used various circle stencils, Imagination Crafts & Creative Expressions, along with Dylusions paint, Black Marble & Calypso Teal, to add depth to the background.

Dry brushed the Honeycomb Lattice sections with Black Marble Dylusions paint.

Use a plastic card to apply lines, used Dylusions Black Marble paint.

Used black Faber Castell Pitt pen to highlight the brickwork sections.

Used a black Derwent Graphik Paint Liner pen to draw sketch lines on the white stencilled hearts.

Used a white Derwent Graphik Paint Liner pen to highlight some of the black stencilled circles.

Arranged the die cut hearts on the canvas, adhered with a hot glue gun.

Used White Linen Dylusions paint to splatter the canvas, loaded a paintbrush with white paint and flicked.

To add some shadow around the die cut hearts, used a black Faber Castell Pitt pen to make them pop on the canvas. Smudged the ink with a cotton bud to soften the edges.

Stamped the sentiment, used Visible Image stamp from ‘This Is Me’ stamp set, onto white card stock using black Archival ink.

Adhered the sentiment to the canvas using Pinflair 3D Glue Gel.
