Digi Choosday – Week 22 – Think Summer

Morning, hope you’re all well!

It’s Tuesday and time for a new challenge at Digi Choosday

This weeks theme is ‘Think Summer’, here’s hoping we get one in the UK!!!

I decided to make an addition to one of my art journals and choose an adorable beach hut from the Sundae of Seasons collection.

Are you singing along now!!!!

Digi Choosday Wk 22 Think Summer, Polkadoodles, Art Journal, Mixed Media

Step by Step

1. I sized the beach hut to fit my A5 art journal and printed onto Ultimate Graphic paper. To size the beach hut,  I simply used the snapshot tool in Adobe to select the beach hut I wanted on the PDF sheet and altered my printer settings to achieve the require size.

2. I added a few extra details to the beach hut digi image using a Sakura Micron pen, , I drew in the planks on the door and body of the hut & bolts around the window.

3. Coloured the beach hut with Faber Castell Polychromo pencils before fussy cutting the digi out.

4. I gave the art journal page a quick coat of Deco Art Matte Medium, once dry, I used Faber Castell Gelatos to create the background.

5. Used a couple of Imagination Craft stencils along with Creative Expressions Colour Cloud Blending inks, to add a little more depth and interest to the background.

6. Adhere the beach but to the page using Deco Art Matte medium. I also gave the whole page a coat of Matte Medium, using a sponge to dab the Matte Medium over the page to avoid moving the Gelatos and Colour Cloud inks as they are water based.

7. Once the Deco Art Matte Medium had dried, I used a Faber Castell Big Brush Pitt pen to add some shade around the beach hut and ground it to the beach.

8. Finally, I used a Tim Holtz alphabet stamp set to add the text, using black Versafine ink.

The Sundae of Seasons collection is a fabulous collection covering just about every occasion, it’s absolutely busting at the seams with yummy digi stamps, printable papers, embellishments etc.

Look forward to seeing your makes for the challenge over on the Digi Choosday blog and don’t forget the discount code available on the blog is valid for today only, don’t miss out.

Polkadoodles – 7 Year Itch – Oddella

Morning all, thank goodness it’s the weekend, it’s been a hectic week!

It’s time to celebrate Polkadoodles is turning 7.

As this anniversary is normally called the “7 year itch”, the Polkadoodles team have embraced the prickly feeling by scratching that itch and mixing/scratching up some new images … get the pun? Corny we know but the team have had great fun. So to embrace the “itchy scratch” the Polkadoodles team have thrown caution to the wind and “scratched up” a different kind of birthday celebration.

The birthday celebrations will be running for 2 weeks and each day someone from the Polkadoodles team will be sharing their “mixed/scratched up” image. It’s been all hush hush and secret squirrel too as no one knows who has been busy creating what and when they will be revealing their image… so the Polkadoodles team get to join in the fun too. To add an extra layer of itchy fun, everyone has also been colouring up the new “scratched/mixed up” images, (still not knowing who designed them) and they will be sharing via their blogs and on FaceBook.

We really have scratched things up … new merged images, no one knows who created what and no one knows when they’ll be sharing them …!

Please do take the opportunity to visit the Polkadoodles team, you can catch up with team over on Facebook in Polkadoodles Crafting or Digi Choosday Crafting with Polkadoodles groups and see their new digi images because you will find a discount code (or two) along your way that you can use in the Polkadoodles shop.

I got busy and messy making an altered mini clipboard, using my mixed up digi image, available here.

Step by Step

1. Using my mixed up digi image, Oddella with wings, I printed the altered Oddella onto Ultimate Graphic paper and coloured her with a combination of Copic Pens and Faber Castell Polychromo pencils, along with a gold Wink of Stellar brush pen on the crown. Fussy cut Oddella out, I did chop off her handbag because I knew it would be virtually covered with the paper flowers.

2. Used Art Deco Modelling paste with a Viva Decor/Pinflair stencil in a couple of spots on the mini clipboard and allowed to dry.

3. Gave the mini clipboard a thin coat of white gesso, used Art Deco acrylic paints in brown & teal to give an undercoat to the background.

4. Used Ranger Alcohol Inks, in various colours – reds, oranges, gold, silver & green, to create an aged metallic effect for the background. Also adding some to the spring clip of the mini clipboard.

5.  Used black Archival ink with various Tim Holtz stamps to add some interest to the background.

6. Highlighted the stencilled embossing with the Pinflair Buff-It.

7. Used a Tattered Lace heart die to cut three hearts from Kraft card, embossed one of the hearts with a Tattered Lace embossing folder. Glued the three hearts together, this was done simply to give the heart some strength because it would be on the spring clip.

8. Cut several cogs and a key, using First Edition dies, and an arrow, using a Sizzix die, from Kraft card. Coloured the heart, cogs, key and arrow with Pinflair Buff-It in several metallic colours.

9. Glued the various die cuts onto the heart, adhered the heart to the spring clip using Pinflair 3D glue gel.

10. Glued my Oddella mixed up digi image to the bottom right hand corner using Art Deco Matte Medium, also sealed Oddella with the Matte Medium too. Added the paper flowers, adhering with Pinflair 3D glue gel, and a couple of sprigs cut from Kraft card, using a Tattered Lace die.

For my mixed up image, I’ve used one of my fav digi characters Oddella with handbag, instant download, and mixed it up with a couple of digi stamps, the crown and the wings, from the Work and Play 9 Love & Kisses Collection, instant download.

Digi Choosday, Polkadoodles, Lemonade Fizz

Step by Step

Using the Lemonade Fizz digital collection and my graphics program

1. Choose the pre-coloured frame and resized.

2. Selected the pre-coloured jar & flowers digi image and resized to fit in the frame.

3. From the sentiment sheets I picked the ‘Celebrate Life’ text and cropped from the sheet, resized and positioned in the frame.

4. Choose three of the pre-coloured butterflies, resized to suit and positioned in the frame.

5. Duplicated the butterflies, to be used to decoupage later.

6. Printed out the designed topper and the butterflies for decoupage.

7. Using a Cool Grey Copic pen I went around the edge of the inside of the frame and around the butterflies, to give a little more dimension/shadow to the printed images.

8. Cut out the frame topper and the decoupage butterflies.

9. Adhered the frame topper to a piece of pink card stock and trimmed.

10. Using another piece of the pink card stock, created the back section of the card, after scoring a hinge adhered using red super sticky double sided tape.

11. Used a Wink of Stellar clear glitter brush pen to add some twinkle to the decoupage butterflies and to some of the flowers in the jar. Adhered the butterflies to the topper using Pinflair 3D glue gel.

12. Used Rangers Glossy Accents on the centre of the flowers in the frame.

Happy Birthday - Polkadoodles, character - Serenity Princess, mushrooms - Bonbon Belles, sentiment - Serenity collection

Step by Step

1. I started with the “mixed/scratched up” image, made using the Serenity Princess character and the mushrooms from the Bonbon Belles collection, I added the sentiment “Hoping you have a Magical Day” from the Serenity collection, using my graphics program.

2. I grouped the “mixed/scratched up” image with the sentiment and resized.

3. Once I’d printed the image, used a Tattered Lace oval die to die the image.

4. Coloured the mushrooms using Copic pens and added the white dots using a Graph’it white shaker pen.

5. Coloured Serenity with a combination of Copic pens and Sakura Stardust pens, I think being a fairy she need some twinkle!

6. Used blue pearlescent Pan Pastels to colour the background and to frame the oval I used a black Sakura micron pen to add the wiggly line around the edge of the oval.

7. Using the Tattered Lace oval dies I cut a larger mat from red card stock to adhere the coloured image.

8. Cut two ovals from white card stock, larger than the red mat, again using the Tattered Lace oval dies. Scored one of the ovals, at approx 3.5cm, and adhered the small section to the other oval to create the card blank.

9. Using 3D foam pads I adhered the design to the card blank.

10. Finally, I added the paper flowers using Pinflair 3D glue gel and a couple of pieces foliage, cut from white card stock using Tattered Lace dies.

Digi Choosday – Week 19 – Anything But Square

Morning all, hope you’re all well.

It’s Tuesday so you know what that means, it’s the start of a new challenge at Digi Choosday. This weeks challenge is ‘Anything But Square’, I decided to make a tag using the fabulous new collection from Polkadoodles Little Kingdom.

Step by Step

1. Using a graphic program, I used My Craft Studio, to create my design. I choose elements from the Polkadoodles Little Kingdom digital collection. All the items for this make are from the Little Kingdom collection – tag, compass, cogs & keys embellishment, butterfly and sentiment, with the exception of the flat back pearls.

2. I started by sizing the tag, I added the compass (x2) and cog & key digi images resized and changed the opacity to blend them into the tag background.

3. Added the butterfly precoloured digi image and sentiment to tag, resizing both to fit the tag.

4. Copied the resized butterfly to use to decoupage up later.

5. Once I had printed the tag and decoupage butterfly and cut out, I inked around the edges of the tag using Cosmic Shimmer Colour Cloud blending ink. I used Wink of Stellar glitter brushes, in clear, black and gold, to add some bling to the butterfly to be decoupaged up.

6. Used a bone folder to shape the butterfly wings before adhering to the tag using Pinflair 3D glue gel.

7. Added 3 flat back pearls, in mink and dark brown, to the bottom right hand corner of the tag.
