Clarity Stamps – Clean and Simply

Clarity Stamps, Clean and Simple challenge

Yep another post!!! I told you I was behind, not just Xmas plans but also blogging too!

Anyway, managed to get some Xmas cards done yesterday and combine it with the Clarity Stamps challenge that I wanted to enter.

The Clarity challenge this month is clean and simple, this is not a style I automatically gravitate to.  It’s not that I don’t like the style, it’s very effective when done well, I simply don’t think I have the eye for it. Anyway, I need some Xmas cards and sharpish so the clean and simple challenge seemed the ideal time to try the style again.

I tore a sheet of paper to create the mask for the focal point of the card. I used Cosmic Shimmer Colour Blending inks, Violet Haze and Chic Aubergine, to colour the background. I stamped the Spruce Scape, Peace (from Word Chain 13 Christmas) and snowflake, all stamps by Clarity Stamps, using Versafine in Imperial Purple. I wasn’t too thrilled with the effect from of the masking when I removed it so moved it slightly and used the Violet Haze Cosmic Shimmer Colour Blending ink to frame it. Finally, I inked the edges using Violet Haze and mounted to the card base using 3D foam.

I’ll be entering this into the Clarity Stamp Challenge – CAS.

Lavinia Stamps – Xmas Tag

How is everyone, I’m sooooo behind with my xmas cards, pressies and just about everything related to xmas!!!

Sharing my recent make using the gorgeous Stag stamp from Lavinia Stamps, he’s a handsome chappie.

I started by using Faber Castell Gelatos, in Cotton Candy and Metallic Mint, to create the base for the background of the tag. Gelatos are water based so any wet medium will reactive them. I wanted to seal the Gelatos and use the DecoArt Matte Medium to help create the effect of light streaming down. Using a brush with the Matte Medium meant the Gelatos started to move and streak.

I used Pitt Big Brush Artist Pens and a scrap of paper to create the hillside, I also used the Pitt pens to ink the Tree stamp also from Lavinia Stamps. I stamped the Stag, using Ranger Archival Ink Jet Black, using a Pitt Artist pens to add the glow around him and add the shadow to the ground around his feet.

I stamped part of the Zen Angelic Words stamp, from Lavinia Stamps, using the Pitt Artist pens to ink the stamp.

To create the snowfall, I used a Tim Holtz stencil and Versamark ink, adding pearlescent Pan Pastels. I also inked the edges of the tag with Versamark ink again using the pearlescent Pan Pastels.

Enjoy your day and thanks for stopping by.

My entry for the Lavinia Stamps Challenge

Indigo Blu – Beauty Everywhere

Well, it’s not the best weather here in Lancashire, no surprises there then lol. It’s cold, grey and dull here so I decided to make something bright and warm, I got out my Faber Castell Gelatos and some of Indigo Blu stamps to make another page for my art journal.

Indigo Blu - Beauty Everywhere, mixed media, rubber stamping, FC Gelatos, art journal

I’ve prepped a few A5 pages with gesso and used various stencils along with some texture paste so I’ve some ready to go without waiting for the texture paste to dry.

I used one of these pages, which had a honeycomb texture on it and used FC gelatos in yellows and oranges to colour the background.

Sealing the Gelatos using ArtDeco Matte Medium, using a sponge to pounce the Matte Medium on – using a brush with the Matte Medium over the Gelatos would smear the Gelatos and this is not the effect I wanted on this page but it can make interesting backgrounds and I do use a brush sometimes.

Once the Matte Medium was dry, I stamped various images, mainly from the Indigo Blu stamp range and a texture stamp from Hobby Art stamps, using Versafine ink pads. I heat set the Versafine ink and then sealed with Matte Medium again.

I stamped a butterfly, also from Indigo Blu, onto a vellum using Versamark and heat embossed using black embossing powder.

Used one of the dies from the Tim Holtz Mixed Media die set on the page, added a couple of hexagon die cuts around the text, paper flowers and buttons to embellish the page. Trimmed the A5 page down just a little to matt on black cardstock and finally adhered the vellum butterfly. I will confess the vellum butterfly was added to cover something I didn’t like but who hasn’t done this!!!

Enjoy day whatever your up to and thanks for popping by 🙂

I decided to make a page for an art journal, I’m having lots fun with art journals and experimenting with different techniques 🙂

I plumped for an art journal page rather than a card because I’d come across a quote from Lucy Larcom which I think fitted perfectly for this weeks theme of Winter Birthdays. I’m certainly not in the Winter of my years but I’m definitely no longer a Spring chicken and I don’t have the same enthusiasm for my own birthdays anymore as I did in my youth lol. The quote from Lucy Larcom is a reminder to myself not to focus on the number and the years gone but to look forward to the coming years with more appreciation and enthusiasm!!

So now I’ve waffled on about why, now for the products and techniques used!

I choose Octavia Winter Time from the Octavia Frosted Winter collection, available on CD-Rom or digital download. I coloured Octavia with alcohol markers and fussy cut the image.

I choose a gorgeous vintage shabby chic style paper in a gentle green colour from the Octavia Frosted Winter collection, the digital paper has a textured effect and to play on this more I used a script rubber stamp using Versamark and heat embossed with gold embossing powder. I also used the Versamark ink pad to edge the paper and heat embossed again with gold embossing powder.

I typed up the Lucy Larcom quote in a word package on my PC and printed it out, snipped out the words and edged with a Memento ink pad in green. I used the Memento ink pad knowing that I was going to seal the whole page with DecoArt Matte Medium, which would smear the Memento ink when applied because I didn’t want the bare white of the paper and the smeared ink would tone the paper down. I used an inkjet printer for printing the text, some inkjet prints will smear or bleed when wet glues/mediums/paints etc are applied but touch wood my printer ink doesn’t (at least done lightly!), but it is something you should be aware of if using inkjet prints and applying wet mediums over the printed image or text.

I printed out some the flowers also from the Octavia Frosted Winter collection and cut them out, I also used a couple of the papers from the collection to use with Spellbinder foliage dies. I embossed the flowers and foliage with a Tattered Lace embossing folder and highlighted the embossing with Pinflair Buff It.

I glued down Octavia and the text with DecoArt Medium and went over the whole page with the Matte Medium too. The Matte Medium helps when I use the Pitt Artist Pens to add shadow and definition to the page, the Matte Medium allows the ink in the Pitt Artist pens to smudge easily for a soft effect. I added the flowers & foliage using Pinflair glue gel and used Viva Decor Pearl pen to create the centre of the flower. Once everything was added to the page, I thought the top right hand corner looked a little bare so using Versamark I used a little accent stamp, from a Tatty Twinkle stamp set, to create the corner detail and heat embossed with gold embossing powder.

Using Pitt Artist Big Brush pens I added some definition around the text, I also used a Graph’it Shake pen in gold directly on the words and smudged with my finger so there’s a very subtle gold sheen on the words. To make Octavia pop I used the Pitt Artist Pens again, using grey and a soft yellow, to give her a little glow and I also used grey and black pens to add shadow around her feet to ground her. Finally I mounted onto an 8×8″ piece of aqua cardstock. I’m going to use my Cinch to bind my art journal pages together when I’ve made more!

Thanks for popping by and I very much hope to see you projects over on the Digi Choosday challenge blog, you’ll also find more inspiration from the DT over on the blog too.

Lavinia Stamps – Spirit of Joy

Lavinia Stamps - Spirit of Joy, Rubber stamping

Afternoon all, from a grey, windy and a very damp Lancashire!!

Been playing with my stamps from Lavinia Stamps. A quick make, looks much brighter in real life, I can’t get a decent photo of it???

I started by using Memento inks to create the background, I used an Inkylicious ink duster to apply the inks. I used three colours to create the background a yellow orange, yellow and a yellow green. I then stamped the images, all from Lavinia Stamps, using Versafine Onyx Black. I then created the landscape using torn paper and black soot Distress Inks.  I added a few dots in white, silver  & gold, Graph’it shaker pens, around the dandelions For the text I used another small piece of card from my scrap box, it was already inked up in orange, pink, red, purple & yellow, I used Versafine Onyx Black to stamp the words, another stamp from Lavinia Stamps. I snipped the words and glued randomly on the card. Finally step was to mat onto black card.

Thanks for stopping by, enjoy your day whatever you up to 🙂
